G-Man’s 12 Highlights of 2018: Day 2 – Skies of Fire

Skies of Fire from Mythopoeia is a title that’s impressed me from the very beginning and while I’ve taken a look at the opening issues (#1-3 & #4)…….the recent Kickstarter for a collected edition grabbed my attention all over again.

It’s a story of loyalty & revenge that takes place in the midst of the Aquilan Empire where a world of diesel-fuelled airships sets the tone for war, commerce & travel in a glorious story from writers Vincenzo Ferriero & Ray Chou.  It oozes style from the beginning and when you see some of the detailed material at the back of their issues you get a real feeling for how vast the world building is from them.

When that story is combined with Pablo Peppino’s art and Bryan Valenza’s colours then the epic vistas & intricate detail take on a whole new sense of scale that powers home the sense of awe the book already promised from the first glimpse at some of the panels.  It’s A4 format and the hardcover release that recently arrived through my door makes this feel like a much more mainstream book and with an increasing fan base with each Kickstarter campaign & the quality on offer from the whole creative team behind it……it’s sure to keep going with that level of momentum.

You can check out this and the other Mythopoeia titles over on their website and keep updated with progress over on Facebook & Twitter.  You can also pick up the first four issues of Skies of Fire over on Comixology.
