Titan’s latest release sees writers Alex Paknadel & Dan Watters join forces to bring us the newest chapter in the Assassin’s Creed run of titles and while I may not be into the games all that much it’s still good to get a chance at an early look at a new title.
We’re dropped right into the action with what seems to be the middle of a mission going bad as the war between the Brotherhood & Templars continues with recent initiate Charlotte de la Cruz firmly up against it. The support crew and the team being built around the latest attempts to bring order to the world sees a typical face-off between good an evil and while it could easily have slipped into a formulaic battle between the two it ends up being far more detailed than that.
Alex & Dan do a great job of fleshing out the characters from the beginning and in a team filled with a unique blend of highly trained assassins they do an exceptional job at balancing this opener out among them all. It’s a similar story for the nastier elements of the cast and it all sets out the groundwork for what could well be a title jam-packed with potential.
The look of the issue is a key component to it’s success too and while Jose Holder gives a slick panel layout that manages to harness the thrill of the chase, colourist Marko Lesko & Letterer Jimmy Bettancourt help breathe life into the pages that draws you in and then gets you turning those pages as fast as you can. Smart, detailed & energetic – it feels like the kind of title that’s accessible to newbies and Assassin’s Creed fans alike which leaves it being a win-win for creative team and reader.
There are some cracking covers available as you can see below with a blank variant on offer too that’s sketch-ready!
Keep an eye out on the Titan Comics website, Facebook & Twitter pages for more on this and all their other titles.
