The latest one-shot release sees the Justice League bring together the big hitters as they face another challenge that only teaming up can resolve but with Superman having met his demise during the pre-Rebirth Super League arc there’s a new man with the S on his chest that’s got to make the decision to commit to the team that he sees struggling to fend off an alien invasion on TV. The gang are all here and while the peril that a new foe brings allows some impressive set pieces to explode across those pages I can’t help but think that there’s something missing from this release. It feels clunky in places and where I would have expected the intricacy’s of a new team in a new world to be really engaging it’s somehow left feeling like a much more hollow affair. The artwork is bold and brash liked you’d expect from a title featuring the who’s who of the DC lineup but a less than impressive story with a real lack of interest in the group as a whole makes me think that this was a massive opportunity missed for the first family of DC’s Rebirth machine that has impressed more than expected with some of it’s solo character titles. Roll on the next one-shots!!
